Sixteen vs Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect is free and excellent at training. This is a comparison about scope, not price.

Training

Garmin wins. Training load, status, readiness, VO2 max, structured workouts and courses are deeper than anything Sixteen attempts. Sixteen logs activities with GPS and heart rate and scores strain, which is enough for most people and not enough for a marathon block.

Recovery and sleep

Garmin reports Body Battery, sleep score and HRV status on supported watches. Sixteen builds recovery from HRV, resting heart rate and breathing against your baseline, caps it by sleep, load and journal, and uses it to set the strain target and screen time.

Nutrition and strength

Garmin has no food log and counts reps on the watch. Sixteen has a food database with photo logging and macro targets, and a rep by rep strength log with progression that feeds recovery.

Screen time

Garmin has none. Sixteen locks apps, pays out earned minutes and locks everything at bedtime.

Price

Garmin Connect is free with the watch; Connect+ is optional at $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Sixteen is $99 once or $19.99 a month with no hardware.
