Oura alternative

The Oura alternative for people who are done paying twice.

Oura charges for the ring and then $69.99 a year to see most of what it measures. Sixteen turns an Apple Watch into a sleep and recovery tracker, adds the things a ring cannot do, and costs $99 once.

Why people use Oura

Oura made sleep tracking feel premium. The ring is easy to wear in bed, the sleep score is easy to trust, and readiness gives a daily nudge. Many people buy it purely for sleep and are happy with it.

What Oura does well

  • Sleep staging and readiness that many people find easy to trust
  • A ring is discreet and comfortable in bed
  • Temperature trends and cycle insights
  • Week long battery

Where Oura becomes expensive

You buy the ring, then the membership. Without the $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year plan the app shows only headline scores. Over five years that is $350 in membership on top of the hardware, and rings get replaced when sizes or batteries change. The insight also stops at the score: Oura cannot lock the app you were reading at 1am.

Oura membership is $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US, with the first month free for new members. Without it the app shows only basic scores. Prices checked September 2026.

What Sixteen does differently

No second purchase

If you wear an Apple Watch, Sixteen already has the sleep and heart data it needs. One app, one price.

A sleep score you can change tonight

Hours against need, consistency, efficiency and sleep stress, with a bedtime lock that guards the schedule you set.

Recovery that runs your day

The morning percentage sets a strain target and shapes the coaching line, instead of sitting in a widget.

Food, lifting and the phone

Oura logs meals and workouts. Sixteen also logs sets and reps, counts them as load, and turns movement into earned screen time.

Who should choose Sixteen

  • You already own an Apple Watch.
  • You want one purchase, not hardware plus a membership.
  • You want the sleep score to actually protect your bedtime.
  • You lift, log food or want your phone under control.

Questions people ask

Is there an Oura Ring alternative without a subscription?
Yes. Ultrahuman sells a ring without a membership for its core features, and an Apple Watch worn overnight gives the same sleep and HRV data through Apple Health with no membership at all. Sixteen scores either one for $99 once.
Which Oura Ring has no subscription?
None of the current ones. Gen 3 and Gen 4 need a membership for the full app; without it you get three bare daily scores. Our guide on using an Oura Ring without a subscription lists exactly what is left.
Is it worth having an Oura Ring without a subscription?
As a sensor, yes: it keeps recording sleep, heart rate, HRV and temperature. Turn on Apple Health sync in the Oura app and Sixteen turns that data into full sleep and recovery scores without the membership.
Can I use my Oura ring with Sixteen?
Yes, through Apple Health. Turn on Health sync in the Oura app and Sixteen reads the sleep and heart data it writes. A direct Oura connection is on the roadmap. See the Oura integration page for exactly what comes across.
Is Sixteen a free Oura alternative?
No. Sixteen is $99 once or $19.99 a month. It removes the wearable membership, not the cost of good software.
Does Sixteen track temperature?
Not from Apple Watch or WHOOP straps. If your device writes wrist temperature to Apple Health, Sixteen can show it, but it is not part of the recovery score.
